Super Smash Bros 4 Live Stream; As It Happens

In this post, we’ll be updating you on all the things said during today’s live stream of the Super Smash Bros for Wii U (and 3DS, though that doesn’t seem to be the focus any more).

This will include information on any new characters, information on any ballot results (if announced), information on new stages and items and assist trophies, stuff about new modes and much, much more.

So what are Nintendo going to announce?  Let’s find out!

03:40: It’s starting!

03:40: Oh look it’s Roy.  Who’d have guessed?

Hint: Everyone who’s seen the videos.

Roy Joins the Battle!

03:42: Lucas too.  Apparently they’ll be released at the same time.

03:42: Both at $4

03:43: Mega Man X, Animal Crossing, Splatoon and Virtua Fighter Mii costumes.  Does anyone actually care for these?

03:44: Splatoon trophies too.

03:45: Mii Amiibos, which can be used with DLC costumes.  Interesting, but… does anyone care about these Miis?

03:45: Mr Game & Watch, ROB, Duck Hunt Duo and Falco get Amiibos.

03:47: New stages.  Dream Land from Smash Bros 64. It’s in both the Wii U and 3DS versions.

03:48: They’re also adding Mario Bros and Hyrule Castle from the original!

03:48: The Miiverse stage is free.

03:48: Tourney mode is coming, with both regular and timed versions.  Coming in August!

03:49: You’ll now be able to upload videos to Youtube.  Cool. Especially given they’re normal video files that can be used anywhere else!

03:50: Yep, it’s Ryu now.  Didn’t see that one gaming![/sarcasm]

03:51: Still, he does have cool moves and a home stage. And he gets different moves based on how long you hold the button!

03:51: His moves can be activated with the original combo controls.  Cool I guess.

03:55: The stage for him looks cool.  The music actually changes when the fight is about to end!

03:56: Tekken is represented with a costume.

03:57: They’re both getting Amiibos too!

03:58: Everything’s been released too!

03:58: And that’s everything.  Okay, but I wanted to hear who was decided from the character ballot.  Any results yet?  Anyone?

Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS; Nintendo Live Stream

As you likely know by now, Nintendo is making a Nintendo Direct style video about the new Super Smash Bros game at 3:40PM today (GMT time zone).  So in advance of the stream actually starting (and Ryu and Roy likely being officially announced), we thought we’d better have the video player posted on the site.

So below is Nintendo’s live stream.  Just wait for it to start, and you’ll be able to see all the cool stuff announced later today:

We’ll be running a series of live updates as well, although those will be in a separate post.

Hyrule Warriors Announced for the 3DS!

It’s not even E3 yet, and the leaked videos and rumours are already coming!  This time, we’ve got a legitimate trailer for a very interesting new title…

A port of Hyrule Warriors for the Nintendo 3DS!

Here’s the video showing off the first for the first time, courtesy of our Youtube channel:

What’s even better though, is what’s new in this game.  You see, like any good port or remake, the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors has a few new playable characters with their own abilities.  Namely Tetra and the King of Red Lions.

So first up, let’s look at Tetra in this game:

Tetra3 Tetra2

With a design straight out of the Wind Waker HD and fighting with a sword and bow as weapons, Tetra seems to be a lot like Link or the other mains in terms of a moveset or abilities. But while she is a nice addition, she’s not the interesting one here…

Nope, that goes to the King of Hyrule.

Yep. The same king of Hyrule featured in The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker. You know, the one that telepathically controls the talking boat you sail the Great Sea on. He’s actually a playable character in this title:

And just in case you forgot he was the King of Red Lions in the original game?

He can now transform into a boat at will and smash into the enemies in style! Yes, it’s about as insanely awesome as it sounds:

So that’s the new Hyrule Warriors for you. Two new characters (one of which is literally a king turned boat on land), a few new items (one of which apparently hints at the female Link shown earlier being playable at some point) and various other minor feature changes like the obligatory touch screen based map. It’s a pretty nice looking port of the game which does a decent job at transferring the feel of the gameplay to a much weaker console, and honestly? I’m probably more likely to get this version than the Wii U at this point in time.

What do you think about the new Hyrule Warriors game for 3DS?

Platinum Games and Retro Studios Hint at Nintendo E3 Reveals!

Ever wonder what Retro Studios or Platinum Games are up to, given that Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Bayonetta 2 are now long released?

Well, it seems like they may be ready to show something at E3, if their latest tweets are any indication!  For instance, here’s an interesting Twitter retweet about Nintendo’s live event from a Platinum Games staffer:

It’s been retweeted by Yusuke Hashimoto, a lead game designer for Platinum Games and director for Bayonetta 2. Is he implying that the company has something to show at Nintendo’s event?

In addition to that, we’ve got a rather less vague by Retro Studios:

Yep, they’re literally saying E3 is going to be awesome, with a heavy dose of hints about a new project at the same time. Are they going to announce a new Metroid or Donkey Kong game? Something new? Guess we can only find out on the day!

Sonic Boom Fire and Ice Revealed!

It’s a new game in the Sonic Boom series?  Just a few months after the first few bombed and failed miserably?  Wonder this one will be like…

Ah, seems decent enough then.  However, do you notice anything interesting here?

Like how the smaller, side game by Sanzaru Games has gotten the sequel instead of the big home console version by BigRedButton?  Or that it just conveniently got this far within what must be less than a year worth of development?

To me, that sounds like Sega is trying its damn hardest to quietly shuffle Rise of Lyric and the debacle around it under the rug.  As if they’re doing last minute damage control to try and salvage a damaged sub franchise’s reputation before it crashes and burns miserably.

But hey, it should at least be a half decent game.  Shattered Crystal was the better of the two titles after all, and this one looks to be a whole lot more polished and a whole lot less glitchy than the original Sonic Boom titles were. Let’s hope it can finally put right what the original two games messed up so badly on.
