Normally, when you hear about fan games, you expect to see something a bit… retro. Like an 8 or 16 bit game from the early days of gaming.
But A Tribute to DKC… is very different. Not only is it a full blown sequel/remix of the Donkey Kong Country series, but it actually has fully modeled 3D graphics in the style of Donkey Kong Country Returns or Tropical Freeze! Here’s a trailer for the game, in case you don’t believe me:
Isn’t that just stunning? It’s literally a full blown Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze style game… being released online for free. What’s more, it’s absolutely LOADED with setpieces and other cool looking gameplay elements, like falling trees, chases by Arich from Donkey Kong Country 3, riding a giant Necky across a sunset… You even blast back and forth between the background and foreground, like in Retro’s games!
And graphically? This is pretty much what Returns or Tropical Freeze may have looked like on the Gamecube. Heck, if you were one of those people disappointed by bright colours and a lack of Kremlings, this is probably what you wanted Returns and Tropical Freeze to actually look like.

Above: Yes, Baron K Roolenstein appears in this game. Obscure K Rool costume choice much?
A Tribute to DKC will have its first world released on December 1st. Oh, and did I mention that this whole game is apparently by ONE PERSON?
