Mario Pinball Land Rated for Wii U Virtual Console
According to the OFLC (Australian Video Game Ratings board) anyway. So there’s pretty good evidence the game’s making it to Virtual Console.
But part of me wonders just one thing here. Namely, why the hell is this game coming to the Virtual Console?
Find out why I’m curious in the full post…
So yeah, let’s start with the obvious. No one on the planet gives a toss about this game. Is that harsh? Maybe, but come on, it’s blatantly true. Wario Land 4 has fans. Metroid Fusion has fans. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga has fans.
Mario Pinball Land/Super Mario Ball?
Who the hell likes this game?
Above: Most people to this game’s rerelease announcement.
Because it sure as hell isn’t the reviewers. They tore strips off this title back in the day, considering it a rather pretty game which had rather broken actual gameplay. It has a mediocre 62/100 on Metacritic.
It also wasn’t the fans. Fan reception towards this game was mixed at best and awful at worst, with Artemendo of Mario fan site Waluigious sharing a particular dislike of pretty much the entire game and everything in it. They’re not exactly jumping for joy at this news.
And sales? What sales? I know it’s not accurate, but VG Chartz pegs this at about 0.7 million copies sold at most, and Wikipedia doesn’t even MENTION anything about how well it did in shops (they usually include some sort of figures if a game sells better than absolute crap).
Above: On the bright side, at least it had some decent music. Including Mario RPG knockoff music.
So with that said, why is this game being rereleased? Because you’ve already got Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Advance Wars 1 and 2, F-Zero Maximum Velocity, WarioWare, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, Mario Tennis Advance, Metroid Fusion, Wario Land 4, The Legend of Zelda The Minish Cap and Super Mario Advance 4 planned for the service. Who in their right mind is going to turn down all of those classics and buy this piece of rubbish?
Mario Pinball Land on Wii U Virtual Console… what a waste of time and effort on Nintendo’s part. Should have moved The Minish Cap and Wario Land 4 to week one instead…
