Is Mario Kart 8 being released on April 25th 2014?
That’s what a fairly well known UK retailer has down for it anyway, with retailer Littlewoods listing the upcoming Wii U racer as coming out in April 25th 2014.
But is this accurate? Is there any good reason to believe them? Well read on and you’ll find out…
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. For one thing, Nintendo of Europe themselves have already hinted at the game’s UK release date being sometime in April in a newsletter released earlier this year, so there’s also a little bit of proof out there suggesting an April 2014 release date is highly likely.
Above: This game came out in around the same month in 2008.
And in addition to this, the other Mario Kart games have generally been released at similar times. Here’s a full list in case you can’t remember (listing the UK release dates for each installment in the series):
- Super Mario Kart: January 21st 1993
- Mario Kart 64: June 24th 1997
- Mario Kart Super Circuit: September 14th 2001
- Mario Kart Double Dash: November 17th 2003
- Mario Kart DS: November 25, 2005
- Mario Kart Wii: April 11, 2008
- Mario Kart 7: November 2011
As you can clearly see, the general rule of thumb tends to be that Mario Kart games are either released rather early in the year or during November, with at least one other title being released right during April (the Wii game) within about a week or two of Mario Kart 8’s projected release date. Add how Mario Kart Wii is basically this game’s last gen equivalent (with 7 and DS being equivalents respectively as well), and it seems quite possible that we might get an April release date for it just to continue the ‘pattern’ (home console Mario Kart games in the first half the year, handheld ones in the second half the year).
But what do you think? Is there a chance this rumoured release date for Mario Kart 8 could be plausible? Why?
