Ubisoft Finally Announces Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle!

It’s been the industry’s best-known secret for months, with hundreds of sites and journalists publishing articles about it.

But now, Ubisoft has announced the game for real. Here is the first ever trailer for Mario + Rabbids:

Plus a behind the scenes chat with Miyamoto himself:

We’ve also got some nice character sheets for the main cast in the game, as well as the box art itself:

As you can see, it’s exactly what we expected it to be. You’ve got the Rabbids based on Mario characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach and Donkey Kong. The guns from the concept art seem to be there (complete with unique designs like one based on the Poltergust 3000). Heck, even the weird arena combat gameplay hinted at the leaks is all present and accounted for.

It’s everything people said it was. Everything the leaks promised is here and accounted for.

Yet after seeing it myself… I’m actually really excited for this title.

Sure, it’s not gonna be anywhere near as good as Super Mario Odyssey, and a great Paper Mario title or Wario Land game would still be my first choice over this one.

Those preferences aren’t going to change anytime soon.

Yet (as I said before), it still looks ten times more interesting than any Mario game from the Wii era.

You’ve got creative worlds, with an art style closer to Rayman than New Super Mario Bros. You’ve got creative ideas, with what looks like a theme park and pyramid construction site in the levels. The scenery in general looks spectacular with tons of detail.

And the Rabbids themselves? Actually work really well here. Unlike the identikit Toads of Paper Mario, these guys have personality. Like say, unique costumes. Or behaviour based on those they’re imitating.

It’s a huge step up from NSMB or modern Mario Party. Because it’s a game with an actual soul.

So yeah, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle looks good. It’s not a surprise, but it’s an interesting looking title none the less.

And when it launches on August 29th 2017, I’ll likely be picking it up.

But what about you? Are you interested in this Mario and Rabbids crossover? Or is this one Mario game you’ll miss out on?
