No, we’re not making this up. Here’s a video showing the bug in game:
As you can see, the Pokemon turns out to be completely different from the one actually captured. It’s a Weedle at first, then somehow turns into a Pidgey when registered.
And this is happening multiple times. Apparently, the Pokemon in question has the wrong CP for the one displayed, which hints that only the graphics are being mixed up by the server. It’s a pretty weird issue, and one that’s seemingly happening a fair bit more since the recent update.
However, there is a silver lining here.
Namely, most of the people affected by the glitch don’t seem to be getting screwed over by it. Why? Because the Pokemon they actually caught turns out to be a better deal than the fake one. For example, this person caught what looked like a Caterpie:
Yet afterwards, it turned out he’d caught a Charizard! So what appeared to be a common bug Pokemon was actually one of the rarer (and generally better) ones instead.
And this seems to be the case for most examples of this glitch. I mean sure, the person in the video caught a Pidgey instead of a Weedle. But those are both common Pokemon with fairly similar rarities and usefulness.
So while the bug is annoying, it’s at least not as bad as it could be. I mean, could you imagine if someone got a Caterpie after catching a Charizard? That would really, really suck. Heck, if happened to me, I’d give up on the app there and then.
Either way, it seems Pokemon GO has a major glitch in it. Here’s hoping Niantic figures out a fix for this bug in the near future.
What do you think about the wrong Pokemon bug?
