Game Freak About to Announce New Game?
It’s not necessarily Pokemon related, but a comment from Tetsuya Watanaba from Game Freak does seem to indicate that the company has a new game ready to announce within the foreseeable future. Here’s his comment on the mystery game, as taken from a Japanese developer survey:
We’re doing a lot of different things with respect to our next project, so right now we’re focusing on getting ready to announce it. We sincerely hope from the bottom of our hearts that it’ll be worth checking out once we get to that point.
Now, I’m not one to make snap judgements… but that definitely sounds like Game Freak have been working on a new game and are about to announce it at the start of the new year.
But what game could it be? Well, I have some ideas, so check them out after the break!
The first of these possible ideas, is the third game in the sixth generation of Pokemon. Yes, Game Freak have in the past mentioned that a Pokemon Grey or Pokemon X2/Y2 is unlikely.
But that doesn’t mean a new game can’t still be announced that somehow ties into this generation of Pokemon. Perhaps it turns out this game is a ‘half sequel’, which implements a few features from a new generation (new Pokemon species, new ‘region’, some new concepts) but doesn’t go all out with the new mechanics or gen numbering. Maybe it turns out Game Freak’s next project is a Pokemon game set on an island chain or overseas territory of Kalos where a new villain Team is terrorising a much smaller region and where the other 70 odd species of gen 6 can be located. It’s a possibility.
The other idea, is that it’s not a Pokemon game at all. I mean, Game Freak doesn’t just work on Pokemon titles, they’ve also done work on HarmoKnight, Drill Dozer and a couple of other random titles that have nothing to do with the Pokemon series.
Maybe Game Freak is trying to diversify their portfolio a bit and release a few non Pokemon games on the eShop or something. It’s definitely not a possibility we can count out.
Either way, they seem to be working on something new, and that something new is going to be announced in the near future.
