European Wii U Nintendo Direct; Summary/Live Blog

Welcome to the Nintendo 3DS Daily summary/live blog of the European Wii U Nintendo Direct presentation!  Here, I’ll be updating the page with every new bit of information Nintendo is releasing right as they show it in the video complete with my thoughts, so keep refreshing the page for more (or wait for the javascript refresh script to update it for you)

Titles available on launch day will be shown.

Next seems to be an ultra fancy intro.

Basic pack, white Wii U, 8GB of storage

Black fancier pack, two adaptors, 3GB, game pad stand and Nintendo Land software. Nintendo Network premium, receive points by buying digital content.

500 points, use points for future purchases, scheme to go until 2014, not available at launch.

Compatible with Wii accessories.  Wii remote plus and sensor bar from Wii can be used, not included in basic pack.

Buy console at reduced price without unnecessary accessories.

Starter pack provided at launch, Wii Remote Plus additional set.

Most Wii software compatible, able to transfer WiiWare and Virtual Console titles.

Wii U console capable of HD graphics in 720p and 1280p format.  Main memory 20 times better than Wii, 1GB for games and 1GB for system.

Two game pads possible, one in each pack.

Wii U available on November 30th.

Price not confirmed, check local retailers for price info.

Nintendo Land included with premium pack, also seperately on launch day.

Footage of Nintendo Land.  Games to be played alone or others, Battle Quest, Pikmin Adventure and Metroid Blast.

Against others: Mario Chase, Luigi’s Ghost Mansion and Animal Crossing.

Single Player: DK’s Crash Course, Falcon’s Twister Race, Balloon Trip Breeze, others.

Metroid Blast shown.  More than one more, look at it.

Five player multiplayer.  Two teams, one controllers starship, other uses Wii remote to outrun ship and blow it up from ground.

Also a co-op one where teams play throug stages and fight Metroid enemies like Ridley.

Zelda Battle Quest is next. 3 different levels available.

NSMB U, Peach’s castle invaded by Bowser’s minions.  Must reac castle again through vast one with distinctive areas and levels.

Most fave characters in Nintendo Land.

Can now play as Miis in multiplayer, can tell who is playing who in multiplayer.

By self you can play just on Wii U Game Pad, leaving TV screen for other uses.

Castle level has Thwimps.

Weird Dry spinies as enemies, along with firebars and Fuzzies.

Footage of Rayman Legends is next, shows level with moving fireballs and stuff, interview with developer, footage of Murphy as an assist character.

Seems to have bramble levels for some reason.

Music is synchronised.

Available at Wii U launch.

Second Ubisoft game that’s coming out at launch is Zombie U.  Basically, it’s a launch title thankfully.

Tower of London footage.  Goes over standard ‘when you die you continue as a new character thing’.  Already know.  Same with survival mode.

Weapon crafting feature inside safe house, done directly on Wii U game pad.

50 different items to hunt down and upgrade your weapons.

Choose favourite weapon, use it another and it becomes better, character levels up.

If survivor dies, lose skills you gained.

As you play through, you can leave a message of symbols for fellow survivors playing online.  Can use scanners to read the messages.

When others become infected, appear as zombies in your game, can steal their backpack and equipment, keep tabs on own zombies from survivors and see how many people they attacked.

Limited edition premium pack including Black Wii U console as a bundle.

Next if Fifa.  Looks nice enough, although it’s pretty much just the same old football it ever was (not bad).

Mass Effect discussed too.

Emotional story + memorable characters?  No mention of the hated ending?


Comes with backstory comic and added content at end of game.

Wii U downloadable games next.

Trine 2 Director’s Cut.  Wii U exclusive version of original with new modes and features, including a new cavern level among others.

Supports 4 players locally and online, looks stunning visually.

Toki Tori 2 uses Game Pad for new ideas and gameplay, switch between console and game pad for display, moves from traditional game to puzzler, with level editor that lets you build levels on game pad.

Nano Assassin Neo.

Visually interesting shooter.

Game Pad used to modify ship, can play game on Game Pad alone.

Next is Lego City Undercover.

Mission to end the crime wave in the city.  Video shows your character talking to someone, Chase McCane shown as well known figure in game world.

Rex Fury as a villain.

Game full of humour and gameplay using Wii U game pad.  Can be used to scan for hidden criminals and check for new missions.

Hero can go undercover as a miner or a thief with own abilities.

Can use various vehicles, wall jump and swing on ropes like Mario…

Figure of Chase comes with first copies of game (Lego figure).

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 coming to Wii U as well.

Platinum games’s main title shown.  Has second new game too.

Bayonetta 2 coming to Wii U.  Brand new, published by Nintendo and exclusive to Wii U.

Shows other games in reel, Mass Effect 3, Tekken, Assassin’s Creed, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Disney Epic Mickey 2, Fifa 13, Ninja Gaiden 3, Batman Arkham City, Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, Sonic and All Stars Racing, Darksiders 2, NBA 2K13.

Confirms game for Europe.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U confirmed for Europe. Will also be released for 3DS at same time, can share save data between two versions.

Obviously is online capable.

Can be connected via wireless connection locally.

Will come out in March 2013.

Shows off launch titles, and that’s it, video is over.
