3DS and Wii U will share account system?
As in, the same system will track your purchases and games on both the 3DS eShop and the Wii U’s equivalent? That’s what at least one Nintendo representative has said in regards to this, and their comments really do make it seem like Nintendo is taking a large leap forward in terms of internet features and such like.
Here’s what was originally said:
A unified account system will be implemented later this year with the launch of the Wii U. Eventually this same account system will be made compatible with Nintendo 3DS systems. At this time we have no additional details to offer and nothing to indicate how or if this will work outside the United States and Canada. In the meantime, if the system has a problem, taking it to an Authorized Service Center will maintain the Nintendo eShop account. If the system is stolen, we can transfer the account to a new system once we are provided with a valid police report. NoC customer service member, David Marshall
How’s this whole thing going to work then? Does this possibly mean you’ll one day be able to play the same games on either your 3DS or Wii U? As in potentially play the games available on the eShop on the big screen with the Wii U Game Pad as a replacement for a 3DS or vice versa? That could be interesting change for Nintendo to make.
The idea of being able to transfer it to another system if the console is stolen is an interesting one as well. Does it work like how mobile phones do, the provider can lock and remove the account from the phone remotely to stop criminals using it? Except in this case I presume it’d be more like all eShop data would be removed from the old Wii U or 3DS and reinstated in the new one, leaving the thief with what might as well be a reformatted system.
It’s nice to know Nintendo is finally getting serious about online gaming and downloadable content and has decided to move with the times enough to implement a proper account system, as well as to link it between all major Nintendo systems. What do other people think of this news and the idea of a single account system between the 3DS and Wii U?
