Well, sort of, thanks to the Petit Computer game. The following Japanese Youtube video shows a basic recreation of the title complete with an editor, music with changing pitch and a basic Super Mario Bros 1 inspired game engine:
As you can see, it’s not the most accurate recreation on the planet, and the whole engine for the platforming sections needs a more work before it can be considered complete. But hey, for a one man job in a 3DS programming app, it’s a pretty nice piece of work.
So yeah, seems like Super Mario Maker really could be ported to the 3DS, if this fan recreation is anything to go by.
