NES Emulator Approved for Xbox One?

With Nintendo still making consoles and their older games being exclusive to the eShop’s Virtual Console, it’s unlikely NES games will officially come to the Xbox or PlayStation soon.

However, it seems that’s not gonna stop some people! Why? Because it turns out that NES Box (an emulator which plays NES, SNES, Mega Drive and Game Boy titles) has just been approved for the Xbox One! Yes, Microsoft have approved their submission, and it’ll appear on Windows Store for Xbox in the near future.

Here’s their tweet about the submission:

So it should be quite interesting to see what happens now. On the one hand, Nintendo might not like people playing their games on the Xbox One, especially for free. At the same time though, they can’t really do much about it. Emulators themselves are legal even if the ROMs might not be.

Hence as a result of this, unless the submitters included ROMs in the download, there’s not much anyone other than Microsoft can do about it.

But what do you think? Is it right that the Windows Store should have emulators for Nintendo consoles on it? Or that these emulators should be available on the Xbox One? Post your thoughts on the forums or social media today!

Huh, interesting. I can see this making Nintendo to go after ROM sites now.
